Things to Do

We're lucky enough to have several sites on the National Historic Register, as well as a few museums commemorating our past. Prentiss County also houses the site of Brices Cross Roads, a major battlefield in the Civil War. 

Prentiss also hosts several fun community festivals throughout the year, like the annual county fair and the Boonville fall festival. Stay busy by exploring what our county has to offer! 

Parks & Recreation

Thanks to our environment and climate, Prentiss County offers tons of unique parks to experience. Places like the Pharr Mounds — dating back to 200 A.D. — are just one example of what makes this area so special. With a vast mix of different soil and vegetation types, the John Bell Williams Wildlife Management Area hosts a wide array of wildlife and is great area for all types of hunting.

Looking to cool off after a hot summer day? The Bay Springs Lake is the perfect spot, with plenty of room for boating, fishing, and swimming. Want to be an amateur archaeologist for the day? Try digging for bones at the W.M. Browning Cretaceous Fossil Park!

Public Schools

The Prentiss County school district has several different schools throughout the county, so parents and kids never have to travel too far. The smaller schools are great for cultivating a close-knit community between students of all ages!

Northeast Mississippi Community College is also located in the county and offers great opportunities for higher education close to home. 

Shopping & Dining

Nearby Booneville has all the bases covered when it comes to your shopping needs. The JMorris Realty Outpost has you covered on hunting equipment, Versatile Boutique has the perfect clothes for you, and the flea market can make up for any odds-and-ends!

If you're looking for a bite to eat, Booneville has everything from catfish to local ice cream. There are also several fast food restaurants in the area, just in case you need a bite on the go!

Employment

Plumrose USA Inc, Northeast Mississippi Community College, and the Baptist Memorial Hospital are the three largest employers in the area, with just under one thousand employees. Several other hospitals as well as Wal-Mart and the county government are included in the top ten. No matter what your field may be, you're likely to find something for you in Prentiss County!
